Dog Allergy
Having a dog allergy can
be frustrating and affecting your health. This is even harder if you
happen to love dogs and enjoy their company. The dog allergy is
actually a reaction to the dander from the dog. Anyone can suffer from
a dog allergy, but it is more common in those who suffer from other
types of allergies as well. This can make it tricky to diagnosis as the
person may not realize they are allergic to more than one thing. Dog
allergens are very sticky so they remain in the air for a long time.
In addition to dander, you can have a dog allergy to their saliva.
There are no particular breeds of dogs that cause allergies, but those
who shed the most and drool the most have the highest chances of giving
you a dog allergy. The differences are significant as some breeds shed
their skin every four days and others do it once every twenty days. You
can help control the amount of dander your dog produces by grooming it
regularly, having a proper diet for your dog, and bathing it on a
regular basis. Brush your dog outdoors at least twice a week.
Don’t forget to clean the dog’s toys and bedding weekly as
well.
There are various levels of severity when it comes to dog allergies.
Some common symptoms include nasal congestion, a runny or itchy nose,
sneezing, watery or itchy eyes, headache, fatigue, breathing issues,
and asthma. You can reduce the effects of pet allergies by washing your
hands frequently, especially after playing with your dog. If you have a
severe dog allergy then take a shower and change your clothing as well.
It is a good idea to limit the access your dog has to your home if
someone who lives there suffers from a dog allergy. It is a much better
alternative than getting rid of this beloved family member right? Dog
allergens will adhere to many surfaces in your home including your
clothing, the walls, your furniture, bedding, and curtains. Carpets
hold dog danger and allergens as well. You will need to vacuum them
daily or consider pulling up the carpet and having a hard wood floor
put in. HEPA air filters can remove dog allergens from the air as well.
You should replace the filters on them as well as your heating and
cooling systems regularly to remove as much pet dander from your home
as possible.
Having a dog allergy can certainly result in some uncomfortable
symptoms for you. Most people don’t realize they have a dog
allergy and think it is just part of their other symptoms. Following
the guidelines here can reduce the effects of a dog allergy on you
without causing you to get rid of your dog. If you don’t own a
dog because of your dog allergy, consider looking into the
hypo-allergenic dog breeds such as those without hair. They tend to
cause fewer allergies than other breeds of dogs.
